This website follows me, "Miss Dawn", an Early Childhood Outreach Librarian as I visit daycares, preschools, kindergartens and little ones throughout a county South of Cleveland (OH). Here I hope to share my conversations, lessons and thoughts about the importance of early literacy.

I am starting my fourth winter on the outreach staff visiting approximately 44 classrroms and 1,000 kiddos in 7 school districts. My little ones are in Head Start Programs, public school districts, daycares and private preschools. Previously, I worked for 10 years at Cuyahoga County Public Library. I held Children's Librarian positions at both the Chagrin Falls and Garfield Heights Branches. I obtained both my Master's Degree and Undergraduate Degree from Kent State University. My Master's is in Library and Information Science and my undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education.

I continue to hold an active teaching license in the state of Ohio. I am a member of the American Library Association Services to Children division, the Ohio Library Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

I have published the best of my story times in a book published in 2014 by ALA Editions. "A Year in the Story Room: Ready to Use Programs for Children."

My second book, tenatively titled " From Love to Literacy: Preparing Baby for Kindergarten Success", is in the editing stage. I am hopeful for a release date in Spring 2016. Stay linked in for updated information as it becomes available. I am working on the initial story plans that link reading time to the preschool common core curriculum- with 26 themes - one for each of the letter of the alphabet.

AND, I am heading back to the classroom in the Fall, as a STUDENT. I have been accepted to the docorate program at Kent State University. I am excited to begin working on my PhD. in Curriculum & Instruction - Literacy. It's going to be a busy school year. Luckily I have my lesson plans for my little ones done in advance.
