After reading an Elephant & Piggie Book, I asked the preschoolers why the author, Mo Willems, might have wanted to put Pigeon (another of his famed characters) on the endpaper of this book. Certainly, I didn't know the answer, but my preschoolers were convinced that if I asked Jimbo, he WOULD know. "Because, Miss Dawn, Jimbo knows EVERYTHING for you!"
NEW Things the Kiddos Say
The Elves and The Shoemaker
I shared a flannel version of an oldie but a goodie (and a way to share /Ee/ is for Elves without mentioning Santa) today. Most of the children were enthralled with this unfamiliar fairy tale. When I was through a three year old congratulated me on choosing such a "cute" story.
From the Mouth of Babes
As I wrapped up our time together, I told my kiddos that Jimbo and I were headed off to another school. A little friend was very perplexed that I would visit multiple schools and asked me a litany of questions.
"So, how many schools do you actually go to?"
"30 or more depending on the month," I responded.
"Oh, Miss Dawn! You have a hard-knock life."
Some days, ain't it the truth!!
Dogs are Full of "Tricks"
The children loved to tell me all about the tricks a "good" dog, like Jane could do.
A little girl blurted out "My dog is bad, he's a boy and he pees all over."
Defending his gender I guess, a little boy shouted back, "My dog is a girl and she poops in the house, a lot, all the time."

A Word Like That
One little guy was excited to see Ellie perform her act but he was a bit jealous.
"I wish I could do something so good that I could shout 'Ta-Da!'after I did it."

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a . . .
The children were enjoying naming the animals before I read the text and gave away the animal species. But this page was a stumper.
Until a little girl remembered "It's a tou-cumber." (Could it have been lunch time???)

Library Loan Periods
As I approached one of my schools today, I walked passed the children playing on the playground.
"I'm sorry you need to come inside on this beautiful day." I told the children.
"It's OK, Miss Dawn. We have the playground everyday but we only have library books for like three minutes or something."
